I’m currently a freelance video editor and producer in the DMV (Washington Metropolitan Area). I was previously employed at RedEye Professional Post in Old Town, Alexandria (VA) where I edited as well as created graphic elements for political spots, in breathless deadlines, internal training videos for companies such as the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and podcasts for clients like Arent Fox, to name a few. It was a richly rewarding time there because I got to hone my craft as well as learn new skills as an editor in this multifaceted world of post-production. It was never boring.
I started out as an assistant editor and associate producer and rose up the ranks in my time at VideoTakes, Inc. Before I left VideoTakes after 8 momentous years, I was a VP & senior editor and I oversaw projects throughout the production and post-production phases.
Never one to shy away from a challenge, my work has taken me from the Ecuadorian rainforests to highlight the indelible effects of deforestation to the Northern Great Plains of Montana to document the creation of a prairie-based wildlife reserve. My skills are further employed on location shoots as I media manage the footage to ensure that the production phase goes smoothly. I also wear many hats when a situation calls for it, serving as producer, assistant camera and gaffer.
Off the field, I edit mainly on Final Cut Pro but I have also worked on AVID. I am proficient in DVD StudioPro, Compressor, Adobe AfterEffects, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Media Encoder and Microsoft Office programs. I work with Macs but am also comfortable with Windows. If there is something that is new to me, you will find that I am a quick study. I am always eager to learn more about the equipment and software programs that can make this industry both a creative dream and a technological nightmare.
I am a highly skilled and motivated self-starter as well as a team player. I am comfortable working with people of all ages and background. I am fluent in English and Mandarin as well as some Chinese dialects and Bahasa Malayu.
My creativity and attention to detail is evident in several award winning videos I have edited. They are namely: USAID, the Alaska Wilderness League, American Prairie Foundation, The Wallace Genetic Foundation, the National Building Museum, Children’s National Medical Center, SAIC, EarthEcho, FRESHFARM Markets and Grace Heritage, the organizers behind the US ASEAN Film & Photography Festival to name a few.
A world traveler at heart, I was born on the island state of Singapore and graduated with a B.A (hons) from the University of Reading (UK) in English Literature and Film & Drama. Curiosity and a fascination with the United States took me across the “pond” to Washington, D.C where I pursued my M.F.A in Film and Electronic Media at American University. Currently, I reside in the nation’s capital and continue to channel my creativity and passion into my life each and every day.
